The Lake Tahoe basin has one of the densest populations of black bears in North America, and these bears are iconic and prominent members of South Lake Tahoe.
The photo that we used captures one of these bears during the fall when they come out to feed on the spawning Kokanee salmon at Taylor Creek in South Lake Tahoe.
